FROM CAERNARFON TO BLAENAU FFESTINIOG examines the joint 40 mile narrow gauge railway system of the Festiniog and Welsh Highland Railway that stretches from Caernarfon to Blaenau Ffestiniog in North Wales. Two very different lines with different historical backgrounds, the joint railway comprises the 25 mile long Welsh Highland and the 14 mile long Festiniog Railway, together with the rarely filmed 1899 branch from Glan-y-Pwll Junction to Dinas, the site of the Festiniog's original terminus in Blaenau Ffestiniog. This joint line is not only the longest preserved railway and narrow gauge line in the British Isles, it is also the only heritage railway to cross the national network on a flat crossing too! The Bredgar & Wormshill Light Railway
THE BREDGAR & WORMSHILL LIGHT RAILWAY is a private 2 foot narrow gauge system that operates for just under a mile through the beautiful North Downs in Kent. THE MISSING LINK: Porthmadog to Rhyd Ddu is a tribute DVD to the final phase of the 25 mile Welsh Highland project, running from Porthmadog Harbour to Caernarfon, and this programme focuses on the final Porthmadog Harbour to Hafod-Y-Llyn section, examining trains working over the new Britannia Bridge and Cambrian crossing in Porthmadog, and then on through the Aberglaslyn Pass to Beddgelert, before climbing through Beddgelert Forest through a series of 'S' curves on a severe 1 in 40 gradient, before reaching the summit at Pitt's Head. This DVD examines this with the Festiniog's newest locomotive, replica Lynton & Barnstaple Manning Wardle 2-6-2T 30190 Lyd, resplendent in post 1956 BR mixed traffic lined black livery, in order to represent 'what might have been' had the Welsh Highland or Lynton & Barnstaple remained open.
